1. WCAG 2.2 Level AA Compliance

We aim to adhere strictly to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA standards. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and user-friendly for everyone.

Our platform implements the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard Navigation All interactive elements, including menus, forms, and tournament brackets, are fully accessible via keyboard.
  • Screen Reader Compatibility We use semantic HTML5 and ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes to ensure compatibility with modern screen readers.
  • Colour Contrast & Text Text and interactive elements maintain a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality.
  • Focus Indicators Clear, highly visible focus indicators are present on all interactive elements to assist keyboard-only users.

Additionally, we provide descriptive alt text for all meaningful images, ensure forms have clear labels and error messages, and provide captions or transcripts for official 1UP Esports video content.

2. UK Equality Act 2010 Compliance

1UP Esports operates in compliance with the UK Equality Act 2010. We are dedicated to preventing discrimination and ensuring our services are accessible to all users, regardless of protected characteristics including disability.

  • Non-Discrimination Policy: We do not discriminate against users with disabilities in the provision of our platform, tournament entry, or community features.
  • Reasonable Adjustments: We are committed to making reasonable adjustments to our platform and tournament rules to accommodate players with disabilities, provided these adjustments do not compromise the competitive integrity of the game.
  • Accessibility Support: Players requiring specific accommodations for live events or online tournaments should contact our support team at least 7 days prior to the event.

3. Accessibility Testing & Monitoring

Accessibility is integrated into our development lifecycle. We employ a combination of automated tools and manual testing to monitor our platform:

  • Regular automated scans using industry-standard accessibility testing tools (e.g., axe-core, Lighthouse).
  • Manual testing using keyboard-only navigation and screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver).
  • Periodic audits conducted by internal accessibility champions.
  • Continuous review of user feedback to identify and resolve real-world barriers.

4. Keyboard Shortcuts & Navigation

Our website is designed to be fully navigable using standard keyboard commands:

ActionShortcut / Key
Navigate forward through interactive elementsTab
Navigate backward through interactive elementsShift + Tab
Activate links or buttonsEnter
Select checkboxes or radio buttonsSpace
Close modals or dropdown menusEsc

5. Browser & Assistive Technology Compatibility

1UP Esports is designed to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:

  • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox on Windows.
  • JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on Windows.
  • VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS.
  • TalkBack with Google Chrome on Android.

We support the latest two major versions of all modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge).

6. Known Accessibility Limitations

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, you may encounter some limitations, primarily related to third-party integrations:

  • Third-Party Video Players: Embedded Twitch or YouTube streams may have their own accessibility limitations regarding keyboard traps or captioning controls that are outside our direct control.
  • External Tournament Brackets: Some legacy tournament bracket embeds may not be fully optimised for screen readers. We are actively working with our partners to improve these integrations.
  • User-Generated Content: Content posted by users in community forums or team bios may occasionally lack proper heading structure or alt text.

7. Feedback & Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of 1UP Esports. If you encounter accessibility barriers, require information in an alternative format, or wish to request a reasonable adjustment for a tournament, please contact us:
